Our 2012 market garden
The order is in! The handsome man and I sat down and realistically talked about the items we wanted in our garden this year. There was a heavy emphasis on items we knew we could can as well as items we knew the animals could benefit from should we be blessed with a bumper crop. While it was ridiculously tempting to just order one of everything we know we need to be honest with ourselves. I think this order reflects that.
And of course, we wouldn't be us unless we were growing enough cucumbers and tomatoes to keep us in Greek salads all Summer long. When Mr. Nick lived in Kyrgyzstan for a year we spent his 2 weeks of R&R driving across Greece. While we'll never be able to replicate the feeling you get when eating an actual Greek Salad in Greece, you can get pretty darn close if you grow the food yourself.
We ordered from Johnny's Seed Catalog, even though they're not local, because we are making an extra effort to buy only organic seeds. Johnny's not only had the best selection of organic stock, in some cases they had the only organic options.
In addition to the veggies listed here we also ordered basil, catnip, cilantro, rosemary, oregano and thyme. We plan to buy our onions and potatoes locally when they make it to our feed store.
