Our first Katahdin Hair Sheep
We brought home our first Katahdin Hair Sheep today! (Here they are in the back of the truck, I'll blog more about the shelter and how Mr. Nick made this perfect hauling device soon!)
These three lovely ladies came from On the Lamb Farm in Arlington, Washington. It was an easy drive up North but brrrrrrr, it's amazing how much colder it was! If my geography is correct I think we were very close to the Canadian border, how fun!
Sara-Jo and John have been involved with Katahdin's for over 9 years so we consider ourselves very lucky to have purchased "proven breeders" from them. As a double bonus we got to see Sara-Jo's Australian Cattle Dog, "Boss" in action. I have never seen a dog herd sheep before and I must say, it's not only fascinating it's also really beautiful to see animals working. While we don't have any plans to add dogs yet it certainly gave us something to think about. Unless of course we can get these cats on board with herding...
It was a perfect day in which we not only added to the future of The Farmstead but also met two lovely people with a wonderful farm and even better personalities. And of course I'm happy to report that all three ladies are safe and snug in their new home. Just perfect...
